When we lived in the city there were metal bars that we hung our rugs over when beating them and guys did pull ups on. When we have snow on the ground, we lay it on the ground and beat it into the snow. I can't really vouch for how it cleans because it never seems to really clean my rugs, just makes them look more wet...don't know why I continue and look forward to doing it each winter. It does make them smell fresh.

Well, if you are in Rome, do as the Romans do - and if you are in Ukraine clean your carpets as the Ukrainians do, even if they do not get clean ;)
